Head of Section Vincent Keavney Contact No 087 6959784
The collie has always been an essential part of the working sheepdog farmer's life. This dog's courage, intelligence, stamina and obedience has made it an integral part of sheep farming through the ages.
On August 12th at the Tullamore Show, the public have the opportunity to see the working collie in action at the American Style Arena Sheepdog Trials.
The competition is held in a lengthened and upgraded enclosed arena and is a speed competition. The handler gets his dog to drive four sheep in a series of obstacles without penalties in the fastest time to win the competition. The relationship between dog and handler is extraordinary to observe and many funny incidents have happened in this arena. Visit the arena and you might witness some of the best entertainment on the day
Both experienced and young handlers will take part in this exciting competition. In the Open Class, the six fastest to finish qualify for the Grand Final.
